I was lucky enough to be raised in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. I started doing studio work when I was a teenager. I was in several bands around North Alabama until 2007 when I joined Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit. I was in the 400 Unit for over four years. In that time we released two studio records and one live record. In 2010 I started touring with Azure Ray as well as Maria Taylor. I left the 400 Unit in 2011.
Last year I moved to Birmingham and started playing in a soul band with my friends. We released the “Greetings from St. Paul and The Broken Bones” ep last year. Our LP “Half The City” will release in February, 2014.
It started with my brother and dad. When I got older I fell in love with Mike Campbell, Dwight Yoakam, Steve Cropper, Roy Buchanan and Mark Knopfler.
Epiphone SG Custom
At the moment I love these records, in no order:
Unbunny- Moon Food
Otis Blue: Otis Redding Sings The Blues
John Lennon- Plastic Ono Band
Will Johnson- Scorpion
The FAME Story: FAME Studios hits 1965-71
When I realized my mother wasn’t worried about my career choice any longer.. playing the Ryman wasn’t bad, either.
Isbell got a Flatroc in 2007, I had mine about six months later.
I have two. A Pete Anderson hollow body and a Gil Parris Signature. The Gil is my favorite guitar of all time.
Everything. People constantly ask me about it. Tone variety of tones I can get on the Gil made bringing any other guitars with me pointless.
My main amp is a Custom Sommatone Vibe 45 with a 2×12 cab. I also love my Blackface Deluxe.
I paint. I also have a dog. His name is Jake. He’s pretty solid.
If you have a good amp and a good guitar you’ll be fine. Dont worry about pedals, they’ll just distract you while onstage. Spend any potential pedal money on your rent.
St. Paul and The Broken Bones’ record “Half The City” will be out in February. After the release we’ll be touring through every conceivable city, come see us! Till then our EP “Greetings From St. Paul and The Broken Bones” is available for download at BandCamp anytime.
