Brad Houser

Brad Houser began his musical career playing saxophone as a teen. Brad transitioned to bass at 17-years-old and has gone on to inspire progressive and jam bassists everywhere. He’s a co-founding member of Edie Brickell and New Bohemians (1984), Critter’s Buggin (1993), and Dead Kenny Gs (2007). Brad has released five albums with Edie Brickell and New Bohemians, as well as several records with Critter’s Buggin and The Dead Kenny Gs.

Sadly in July of 2023 Brad Houser passed away, we will continue to offer his signature Basshouser FatFish 32 Bass in remembrance of him.

“Brad was a fantastic player. Easily one of the best I’ve ever witnessed. He’d run all over the NAMM floor, doing booth jams with world class musicians all day long. I remember one jam, being run by bass legend Dave Pomeroy. Dave was explaining the key changes to the band, for some complex jazzy jam they were about to run. Then Dave looks over at Brad and says “I ain’t worried about you Brad!”, to which Brad replied “I’ll figure it out”. We all chuckled and then watched Brad groove that jam like he wrote it. And yeah, that’s Brad’s wicked bass lines on Edie Brickell & New Bohemian’s “What I Am”. But what really stood out about Brad was his endless passion, kind heart, and genuine character. He was positive, forthright, and honest – not a hard read. When Houston flooded a few years back, Brad grabbed a truck, a shotgun (for protection), and a boat, and headed straight to the danger zone to rescue people. No one asked or told him to, he just did it – because that’s how Houser rolls. I’m extremely honored to have known this man. He was one of the good ones. Rest in peace brother, thanks for everything, and we’ll see you jammin on the other side one day.” – Joe Naylor
